Convenience Group Turns 43
March, 2017 - Convenience Group began in President George Turjanica’s south Etobicoke basement in 1974, when an innovative company named 3M selected his company as a dealer for their window film products.
In the beginning, Convenience Group focused on introducing sun control window film to commercial office buildings in Toronto. Sun control film remains popular as a way of not only addressing sun glare but also moderating building temperatures. In 1991, Convenience Group was made the National Canadian Distributor of 3M products, overseeing a network of approximately 30 dealers across Canada, with locations in all major centres.
Convenience Group has always been an industry leader and innovator, and continues to be among one of the few national window film company that provides the full scope of products and services for sun control, security and architectural graphics. In 2016, Convenience Group was awarded 3M Gold Select Graphic Provider status. They have also just began distributing 3M window film in Home Depot stores across Canada.
Over the years, along with sun control and security window film, Convenience Group has introduced many 3M products to Canada. CGI was among the first that used film from the printing industry and applied it to glass for privacy and enhanced appearance. In the early days, it was weather stripping and windows and lighting systems with fixture reflectors. More recently, Feather Friendly® Bird Collision Deterrent and spandrel panel refurbishment installations are the focus.
Feather Friendly is a partnership project with Convenience Group and advocacy group FLAP (Fatal Light Awareness Program). Together they developed a responsive product to address the increasing problem of bird fatalities caused by collisions with reflective glass surfaces. In essence, the developed product is a window film featuring a specifically sized and spaced grid of dots or lines. When applied to the outside surface of windows, it enables birds to detect the glass effectively preventing collisions.
After forty-three years of remarkable growth, Convenience Group includes the TD Centre, as well as many buildings in G.T.A. in its project portfolio. The impressive client list not only includes commercial office buildings, but also hospitals, shopping centres, schools, universities, condominiums and prominent area residences.
